Antonio Lampecco was born in Minuccianio, Italy in 1932. As a young boy in learned the craft near Venice and worked as ceramist to support the family financially. Lampecco moved to Belgium in 1948 at the age of 16. He joined the Craftmanship School of the Abbey of Mardesous in 1952 where he would develop his work and explore form and glazing. In 1956 in started his own studio and participated to his first public exhibition during the 1958 World’s Fair. He won his first of many awards in 1960 and his reputation grew rapidly. Exhibitions were held in Köln, Firenze, Montre-al, New York, Paris, Prague, Lisbon, Oslo, Stockholm, Barcelona, Warsaw, Ankara, and many other places in the world.

Since 1970, Lampecco has explored the limits of his work around simple shapes and complex crystalline glazes which became his signature.

“My pots with their little holes have no function as I didn’t create them as vases. A work doesn’t need function. Isn’t beauty function enough?”
